Description: Parallel drafting is one of Jillians favorite color spinning techniques: there are so many exciting options! This method allows you to blend and mix colors without dye, just using your wheel and hands. In this workshop youll learn the basics of parallel drafting, including lots of tips to keep fibers together and orderly. Well work with solid colors and braids, shifting the value and mood of colors, and making multicolored braids more unified. Well see how ply changes the look of parallel drafted yarns by making singles, 2-ply, and 3-ply yarns. For extra fun, well parallel draft intermittently with color, silk, and sparkle. Parallel drafting is versatile and exciting. After this class your stash will look limitless!

Prerequisites: Advanced beginner. Students should be able to independently spin singles and make a 2-ply yarn.

Materials to bring along:

  • A wheel in good working order (i.e,. you have spun on it recently)
  • 4 bobbins
  • A niddy noddy
  • Tags to mark samples
  • Baggies for fiber
  • Pen and paper to take notes
  • Any other spinning tools you like to use
  • $25 materials fee, payable to Jillian (cash, check or Venmo/Paypal)
  • Fiber will be provided by Jillian
