Pakucho Organic Cotton Yarn

The art of spinning dates back nearly 8,000 years to Peru, where the word Pakucho meant brown cotton in ancient Inca. Today, this traditionally hand-spun Pakucho cotton is cultivated in its naturally occurring shadescream, beige, brown, avocado, and mauvewithout the use of pesticides, herbicides, or artificial dyes.

All harvesting and color sorting are done entirely by hand, just as they have been for over 4,500 years since the domestication of cotton in Peru. (James M. Vreeland Jr.)

Care Instructions:

• Hand or machine wash warm, rinse cool
• Dry flat or gently tumble until almost dry, then lay flat to finish
• Expect 10-15% shrinkage in length if tumble-dried
• Organic colors intensify with washing

Lace Weight Yarn Specs:

• 50g / 500 yds per skein
• Gauge: 6 to 7.5 sts/inch
• Suggested Needles: US 2 (2.75mm) to US 3 (3.25mm)
• Expect 10-15% shrinkage in length if machine dried. To avoid shrinkage, wash in cool water and lay flat to dry.

Worsted Weight Yarn Specs:

• 50g (1.75oz) / 81m (88yds) per skein
• Gauge: 4 to 5 sts/inch
• Suggested Needles: US 7 (4.5mm) to US 9 (5.5mm)
• Expect 10-15% shrinkage in length if machine dried. To avoid shrinkage, wash in cool water and lay flat to dry.

Important Note:

The colors of this yarn are more muted than standard Pakucho yarns, particularly the greens. However, you have control over the final shade! Washing in hot water or machine drying will deepen the colorbut keep in mind that this may also cause 10-15% shrinkage in length.
