Gotland is a Sweden’s largest island, known mostly to outsiders as a great tourist destination. Right at home in its picturesque landscapes is the Gotland breed of sheep, which was established in the 1920’s and30’sas a result of the crossbreedling of the sheep native to the island (the Gute) with introduced breeds from Northern Europe such as the Karakul and the Romanov. The result was a hornless sheep, a little more docile than the Gute, with a more uniformcurl and colour to its fleeces.
